Dorothy Espelage lends expertise on bullying in reviewing new study

Dorothy Espelage, professor in educational psychology, reviewed a recently released study on school bullying. The study, conducted by the Social Development Research Group at the University of Washington, found that schools using a bullying prevention program saw significantly less physical bullying and fewer teachers reporting fighting as a big problem. "Outcomes from a School-Randomized Controlled Trial of Steps to Respect: A School Bullying Prevention Program" compared schools using Committee for Children's Steps to Respect program with control schools. The year-long study, to appear in the Fall 2011 issue of School Psychology Review, was led by Eric C. Brown, Ph.D., and was funded by the Raynier Institute & Foundation. It was conducted in partnership with Committee for Children and Sabina Low, Ph.D. (Wichita State University).
