Eboni Zamani-Gallaher, a professor in the Department of Education Policy, Organization & Leadership at the College of Education at Illinois, will be the principal investigator in a study that seeks to advance knowledge beyond what is already known about underrepresented students studying in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). The nearly two-year research project, funded in the amount of nearly $300,000 by the National Science Foundation, will begin early next year.

Emma Mercier and Luc Paquette, both assistant professors in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction at the College of Education at Illinois, have received a $1.35 million National Science Foundation Cyberlearning and Future Learning Technologies grant for a study that will explore how tools to manage the teaching of collaborative activities can be developed and used to support collaborative problem-solving in core engineering courses.

Dr. Meghan Burke and doctoral student Cheug eun Lee are the recipients of the annual 2016-2017 Marissa Zelinger Research Award. The award is generously funded by Phillip C. and Beverly Goldstick in honor of their granddaughter, Marissa Zelinger, who was diagnosed with Rett syndrome, a disorder that affects communication.

The emotional trauma of being bullied by peers may surpass that of experiencing child abuse or being exposed to neighborhood violence, according to a new study led by educational psychologist Dorothy Espelage, who conducted the research as a faculty member in the Department of Educational Psychology at the College of Education at Illinois.
