Alisha Johnson, a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Education Policy, Organization & Leadership at the College of Education at Illinois, was chosen as a 2016 National Academy of Education/Spencer Dissertation Fellow. Johnson was one of 35 fellows selected among nearly 400 student applications from more than 100 graduate institutions.

Dean Mary Kalantzis and Professor Bill Cope, from the College of Education at Illinois, were part of a University of Illinois contingent that traveled to Sierra Leone for two weeks in late May. The objective of the visit was to re-establish longstanding ties between two land-grant universities that vary greatly in resources but share some of the same educational goals.
