Rebecca Ginsburg, director of the Education Justice Project at the University of Illinois, said IL-CHEP is advocating for many new policies, such as creating transfer holds for people in college programs, a different appeals process when publications are denied and making it so all inmates are allowed to keep books inside their cells.

Special education professor Meghan Burke knows the challenges of navigating restaurants that vary in their accessibility to patrons with disabilities. To assist other restaurant-goers, Burke and University of Illinois students evaluated local restaurants’ accessibility and report their findings on the website Access Urbana-Champaign. Lily Ho, a senior in computer science, is among the interns from the Applied Technologies for Learning in the Arts and Sciences program who collaborated on the project.
